After we played for awhile, we took the boys to the other side of the park for a surprise. We had noticed that a golf course backed up to Holmby and it looked like there was a practice putting green right there at the park. When Jon went over to check it out, he found out that it was a little kids practice course! It was a full 18 hole course- each hole was 45 to 60 yards with a little fairway and a green! It was absolutely PERFECT! So we got the boys their clubs and they played their first "real" round of 9 holes! It was really quite an undertaking for a pair of two year olds. They have always been allowed to just hit the ball where ever they wanted to, so long as it wasn't aimed at another person! They've never had to aim at anything or work in the same direction towards a goal. Matthew was fantastic right from the start. He'd drive the ball, then run to it and hit it towards the hole again. Caleb struggled a bit with the structure at first, but he got a little better with some time and practice. Sometimes its hard to remember that they are only two years old, and when we stopped to think about it, we were both pretty amazed with how well they did!
We drove around for a nap and then came home to get the boys ready for their audition. They boys have only had a few auditions so it is still something new to all of us. I have to admit that I get super nervous, but my nerves have absolutely nothing to do with whether or not they will book the job. I get so nervous because I just want them to present themselves as the wonderful little boys they are. I can honestly say that we've never cared whether or not they book the job. But if they don't, I want it to be because someone was better than them. Not because they didn't put their best foot forward. And of course that is pretty unpredictable when you're putting two year olds in strange new situations with new people and asking them to seperate from mommy and daddy! I hope that makes sense... its hard to put into words. Anyways, I wish I could tell you how the audition went but we truly have no idea. Waiting for their turn was the hardest part because we had to keep them still and quiet for some time- LOL! But they really did great. Then when it was their turn, they walked into the audition room without so much as looking back to see if we were coming! We were so proud of them! They even spoke to the casting director the second she called for them... they asked her if they could touch the number 2 on her door :) And then they were gone! We could hear them talking and laughing but it was hard to make anything out. We heard the Casting Director ask them to dance and to go sit down and read a book. When she opened the door, they were sitting with the book so we assume they were able to follow directions but we've really got no idea! When we asked them about it they said they had fun and that they had to read a book... that's all we know!
We actually got out of there relatively quickly, so we had the rest of the evening to kill. We drove up to Glendale to check out the Verdugo skate park. At first it felt a little lame... the attendants didn't want Jon or I to be out there helping the boys even though the park was practically empty. But the boys had some room to skate on their own and they were doing great. But then these two kids took an interest in the boys and started skating with them and helping them out. It was really sweet :) One of them took the boys down into part of the snake run and was helping them ride back and forth. It was truly amazing to watch the boys listen to him. Matthew spent quite a bit of time with him and Matty was listening to every word he said and was trying to do everything just right! We were so proud of him... he was truly learning something and he thought he was SO cool skating with a big kid! It made for a really fun evening. And so did the awesome playground that was right next to the skate park. We let the boys play there for awhile and it was quite amazing- they were playing together, not next to each other. Our little boys are really growing up... not sure whether to put a happy face or a sad face here!
