Tuesday: The boys and I made our last trip up to the Griffith Observatory. That place had been our Greenfield Village while we were in LA- it was close and free and kept the boys entertained! But the best part about this trip was that we got up there more than an hour before the Observatory opened which meant that we actually got a spot in the parking lot at the top!!! It was kind of the highlight of my week! We spent an hour playing out front- exploring the scientists on the big statue and learning to read the sun dial. The boys made friends with a little girl who was 11 years old and it didn't take long for her to identify the boys as gifted, nor did it take me any longer to identify her as gifted! The boys taught her about Galileo and she taught them about Greek gods and goddesses and they chatted about their favorite musicals for nearly an hour until the Observatory opened. Once it opened, we jumped in line to get tickets for the planetarium show (yes, the same one we saw last week!) but we were surprised when we got a text from our friends saying that they were on their way up to see the show too! The boys were super excited to see their friends and it made our last trip to the Observatory extra special. Tuesday night we had the opportunity to go see a screening at the world premier of Planes: Fire and Rescue in Hollywood. We got to see some of the red carpet activities before getting to the theater and the boys were totally geeked about getting to see their first real movie. Unfortunately they only lasted about 15 minutes. Their extreme sense of empathy that had always prevented us from seeing movies up until that point once again made it impossible for the boys to make it through. Jon took them out and I stayed to watch the rest of the movie- It was really quite adorable but it shook me up a bit. More on that later- right now I'm keeping it short and sweet!
Wednesday: As soon as Jon got home from work we made our last trip to see our California family. We walked into town to get dinner, spent the rest of daylight playing at the park, and then the rest of the night playing at my aunt and uncle's house. The boys were just devastated when I told them Jon and I would be staying to enjoy the evening with them, because last week my aunt, uncle and cousin babysat the boys while Jon and I went out and the boys had so much fun that they were hoping to be left there again! But no fair that they get to have all the fun! It was really hard to say goodbye at the end of the night :/
Thursday: During the day the boys and I went to one of their favorite parks (McCambridge Park) for the last time. Saying goodbye to our favorite places is so hard. In the evening we took more trip to Griffith Park to the Bat Caves because they boys wanted to sing one of their favorite songs while "dancing on the edge of the Hollywood sign"... video to come but for now I'm trying to pencil whip this thing!!!
Friday: Our entire day was spent cleaning!! We did manage quick trip to the Barnes and Noble in the morning because the boys wanted to be able to say goodbye to the train table and Duplo table there. By the time Jon got home I had most of the apartment cleaned up and most of our stuff packed. After dinner we went to Porto's Bakery one last time and then to the boys' other favorite park (Lincoln Park) for a last visit there. Luckily we kept pretty busy for the evening so we didn't have too much time to get too sad!
