Because we had both Grandma and Grammy here, Jon and I were able to sneak out for a date on Saturday night. How sad is it that neither of us could even vaguely remember the last time we went on a real date?! We drove to Dobbs Ferry on the Hudson River and got there in time to watch the sun set over the river. Then we went into Tarrytown where we had dinner at a great little bar and then we stopped at the ice cream shop down the street before coming home. When we got home, the boys were showing us their Lego creations and all of a sudden Matthew made a strange face then started screaming bloody murder. We thought he bit his tongue, but sure enough he swallowed a Lego! He was totally and completely panicked- 1/4 because we had always warned him not to put Legos in his mouth and 3/4 because he was traumatized that his Architecture Studio set was now missing a 1x2 flat vented piece! Of course Caleb then became hysterical, also because he was concerned about the missing piece. Good grief!! I was the only one worried about Matthew's small intestines!
Sunday morning we woke up early and jumped on the 8:00 train into the city. We walked from Grand Central Terminal to Rockefeller Center where the boys finally got to ice skate! There was no line at all and the ice was practically empty. Of course they didn't last long, but their little faces lit up when they skated over to the Prometheus statue and it was worth every single penny. After that we got some lunch and took Grammy to the Lego store. Then we walked over to the library for the boys to see the library lions which are in one of their favorite books about New York City. By that point it had warmed up to 51 degrees. It was hard not to take all of our clothes off and run naked through the streets!! I don't remember the last time it was so WARM! So we decided to walk up to Central Park in search of a playground. We all stuffed our jackets into the boys' strollers and just let them run free. We found the most wonderful playground where the boys played for nearly two hours. It was just incredible :) After a bit of a walk back to Grand Central Terminal, we had to run to catch the train and we headed back home.
The good news is that just before dinner time, the missing Lego piece made its reappearance! While it had been determined that finding it would be daddy's job, Jon and I happened to be out picking up a pizza for dinner when it happened. What luck! For us. Not for the grandmas! LOL! Damn kid... never a dull moment around here!
