Well, we got to start off the week with our first east coast snow storm! Luckily Jon and Alex were able to get out one day before it hit. The very best part of each week is when Jon flies in, but it is always hard to say good-bye when it is time for him to leave. He and Alex left super early Monday morning- so early that my mom drove them to the airport instead of having them try to navigate the trains from White Plains to New Jersey. The boys had Monday and Tuesday off of filming. Monday was a holiday and they just didn't have any scenes on Tuesday. They were looking forward to two days of just hanging out in our apartment. Good thing- because starting Tuesday morning into the middle of Tuesday night we got nearly a foot of snow! We were at least able to get out early Tuesday morning to run some errands- we picked up some groceries, rented a movie from the library, and went to Barnes and Noble so I could get a book. When we got home I put on a pot of chicken and dumpling soup and settled in to watch the snow. When you live in the 19th floor, the snow catches the winds up here and it looks like it is snowing upwards- it was so cool to just sit and watch out the window! After dinner we all sat down to watch Mary Poppins. The boys made it through the first hour and really enjoyed it- so much so that they were trying to build cannons and hang things from the ceiling with string when I put them to bed!
We were supposed to film on Wednesday, but they cancelled because of the weather. We were stuck inside for another day! The boys were super excited about this- my mom and I, not so much. It is amazing how four year olds can entertain themselves for hours on end. It was our third day of being stuck inside but the boys didn't complain even once. We have very few toys here. We brought their giant bag of Legos, some books and some art supplies and that is about it. I guess it goes to show you that kids don't need much. They were the same way when we spent the summer living in Los Angeles- they didn't need any toys at all, they just used their imaginations to play with their new environment. In the last three days, the boys have used the storage boxes in my closet to build every skyscraper known to man. In their own bedroom, they use nothing but their imagination to create the entire NYC skyline. They call me in to see it and while there is literally nothing there, they explain in great detail where each building is any how they built it! It takes a lot of pretending on my part, but I just love to see how creative they are. I'd much rather my kids be creative than smart :) To make something out of nothing should serve them well in life!
Today we will be back to filming but not until later this afternoon. And then tomorrow is Friday which mean Jon will be here early in the morning! Part of our weekend might be spent filming as they are trying to rescheduled the cancelled scenes for Saturday, which is awesome for us because that means Jon gets to be here for an extra day of shooting! We're also hoping to maybe get to Connecticut to explore this weekend. We'll see what the weekend brings :)
