Weekend

After our two long days of driving and a busy day in the city preparing for filming, we were all ready for a down day by the time the weekend rolled around.  The very best part of our weekend actually happened early Saturday morning when we all crowded around the bedroom window overlooking the train station and we got to watch daddy step off the train!  The boys and I ran down to the lobby to meet him- they were so excited to have their daddy here in New York!  Since they needed some quality time together, my mom and I took the opportunity to go out and do some grocery shopping sans kids.  We're not very good city grocery shoppers.  Of course it didn't help that we needed to buy all the staples to stock the apartment- hopefully next time we can just get what we need for a few days at a time and not need to use the luggage cart to get our bags up to the 19th floor!  Jon got up at 4:00am to get to the airport, so we spent the rest of the afternoon just lounging around and playing Legos together.  Together being the key word!   We did go down to the pool for an evening swim which the boys thoroughly enjoyed- especially Caleb because we took his splint off and let him move his leg around a little bit.  But I'm afraid that they're going to get  very used to having a pool just steps from our front door and that simply won't be the case when we go home!  I guess the ice rink at the park across the street should be melting right about then, but I'm not sure it will be quite the same.

Sunday morning we woke up super early to catch the 8:05 express train into the city.  One of the things on the boys' to-do list was breakfast at Max Brenner and it didn't take much convincing on their part to get Grandma on board for a chocolate breakfast!  We got into Grand Central Terminal and walked straight down Park Avenue from 42nd St. to 14th St.  Thank goodness for umbrella strollers!!!  On the way we stopped to see the Flat Iron Building which is one of the boys favorite NYC icons.  They also got some great views of the Empire State Building and each time they saw it they announced it loud enough for half of the city to hear!  Jon and I spent the walk taking pictures to write our 123 NYC book and the boys also excitedly shouted all of the different types of columns they saw along Park Avenue- who knew there were so many columns?!

We had an incredible breakfast at Max Brenner- we ate there 2 years ago when the boys had their first print job in NYC and we just had to go back.  It is such a treat!!  The hot chocolate is just to die for- which might actually happen if you look at the price of it.  After breakfast we walked all the way back up to 42nd St. and over a few blocks to the Chrysler Building- another of the boys' favorites.  We were able to go into a very small part of the lobby which most would find unassuming, but for the boys it was the highlight of their day in the city!  After a quick walk through the Grand Central Market to grab a snack the ride home, we caught the 11:58 train back up to White Plains.  We had a healthy lunch to counteract our breakfast and the boys are now happily playing Legos while all grown ups rest a little. We'll take it easy for the rest of the day and let the boys play at their own pace because we have to be on set for their first day of filming at 8:00am tomorrow morning!  So excited!!!  Stay tuned :)

Daddy brought some trains and train track with him

Daddy and the boys got right to work on the Lego Eiffel Tower they bought the night before

TaDa!

Lovin' the pool in our apartment building

Flat Iron- the boys are sitting on the second ledge down at the bottom- so tiny!

Might have to blow this up and put it on the boys' bedroom wall at home...

Thankfully we walked a mile and a half to get here because we all had chocolate for breakfast :)

Eating marshmallows from the hot cocoa

OMG- Yes, I let this happen!  When in Rome, right???

Luckily we also walked the mile and a half back to the train station!

Walking up Park Avenue

"THE CHRYSLER BUILDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Looking up!!

Got some a baguette that was nearly as tall as the boys :)
